Village Hall Restoration Project

The interior.

The interior wasn't as bad as the exterior. The panelling was unfinished plywood, the furniture had been inherited from a pub in Kimbolton when it closed, the fireplace was usable, but smoky and the whole place had an air of decay.
Much of this was cosmetic but the softwood floor was seriously worn. The wear was so bad that the knots were projecting 1/2 inch above the surface in some places. The supporting joists had been badly affected by rot and the ends had to be replaced in most cases. As the floorboards were so worn there was no alternative but to replace them and a wood and board laminate floor was subsequently installed.

The interor as it is today with new flooring, new furniture, new panelling along the walls, wall lighting and wall-mounted space heaters. The cleaned and rebuilt chimney allows the fireplace to lend a warm, homely glow to events and meetings.
